March was a crazy ride!

I know I say this every month, but for real, March has been my best month so far.

A very major thing happened this month: I changed Ad Networks. And the impact this had was huge. I nearly trippled my ad income, and with virtually no effort. This just goes to say how important it is to play your cards right. You could go from being a part-time blogger to learning a full-time income with just one simple change.

For me, this change was really important and it’s just one of the steps I want to take when it comes to my ads. I have some big plans ahead, so fingers crossed, everything will work out without too bumps along the road!

March Income Breakdown

My pageviews went from 499,040 in February to 701,639 in March.

I’ve had a nice traffic boost this year. Here’s a graph of the last 3 months:

Just Do It!

I was terrified to switch to a different ad network.

What if I won’t earn as much? What if my site becomes painfully slow to load? What if! WHAT IF?! It’s a big step. I even postponed it for a few months because I “wasn’t ready” (yes you were!).

But if you do your research (which I did, and I knew that other bloggers had great experiences with AdThrive), please don’t let fear of the unknown dissuade you. If you’re unhappy with an aspect of your blog, find different ways to make it work for you. This could be anything from ad revenue to sponsored content to affiliate streams. Try different things! Reach out to networks! Sign up for different affiliate programs!

Take a look at what happened when I made the Switch from The Blogger Network from AdThrive:

Now I’m not saying that one of these networks is better than the other. I’m showing an example of what happened to me based on my site and my experience. I could call these Network A and Network B, but they’re both in my income report, so I wouldn’t be fooling anyone!

I was never happy with my earnings from The Blogger Network, and I was looking for an alternative. I was wanted to maximize my earnings without having to resort to in-content ads.

Keep in mind when looking at the numbers above that my ad layout is virtually the same: ads in the sidebar. I also one ad at the top of my post (before) and one ad at the end, right above the comments. I’m happy with this layout, and I’d even be willing to add an ad at the top of my page. Right now, this would push all my content down, leaving none of the “good stuff” above the fold. (Tip: It’s bad for SEO. If you’re in a similar position, be sure to have something substantial above the fold, and the least possible ads.)

Getting Into rStyle

You might have noticed rStyle popping up as one of my income streams!

I was excited to start exploring rStyle and see what they’re all about. So far, because I already have solid ties with some brands as an independent publisher, I’d rather keep a lot of my links unchanged.

I have to say however that I’m impressed with rStyle and I would absolutely recommend them. They’re a little bit hard to get into and require strong social networks and engagement. I was rejected twice before being accepted, so if you’re in the same boat, don’t worry! Try to meet their criteria and reapply.

That’s it!

That’s it for this month! Good luck to everyone, and stay inspired!
