Hello! I’ve been in Berlin for a little over a week. I haven’t been getting much work done, but thanks to the magic of passive income, my revenue for July went from ~$14,000 to ~$17,000. This is partly due to my traffic increasing, which brought the ad income numbers up. Hopefully, we’re over the early summer slump.

It’s my first time in Berlin. So far, we’ve been to the Tiergarten, the Technology Museum, the Brandenburg Gate and we’ve explored our surroundings. I’ve been wanting to see the Brandenburg Gate for so long, and here it is!

I was mortified to start traveling again, and this trip is to help prove myself that I can. I don’t want to hide from fear and stay in my comfort zone anymore, no matter the obstacles.

Hiding from your fears is the worst thing you can do, and I’ve learned that the hard way. Coming back from that decision was extremely hard.

I’ve been taking big leaps forwards lately to rebuild what was lost, and I hope you’re also growing and overcoming your own fears.

The Past Month In A Nutshell

I’ve also been thinking about helping more people who are going through struggles that are similar to mine. I think it’s what would bring me the most satisfaction.

Traffic

A pretty big increase in traffic for July. Based on past years, I usually get a drop in traffic at the beginning of summer, and it starts picking back up when the summer’s over.

Since I hired an assistant, she’s been creating content consistently for the blog to attract more readers. It’s hard to say at the point what’s causing what. The posting has been consistent since May and yet we’ve had a drop in traffic regardless. My search engine rankings haven’t increased.

Affiliate Income

I’ve negotiated a higher commission for some of the programs I’m in. A lot of bloggers and affiliates are unaware that negotiating higher commissions is a practice, but I encourage everyone to try it. You have nothing to lose, and you won’t get a commission increase if you don’t ask for it.

If you bring value and you’ve been generating them income for a period of time, you can start negotiating.

Ad Revenue

You do need a lot of pageviews to generate considerable ad revenue. My RPM for July was about $9, which means I’m making $9 for every 1,000 pageviews. If I had a new blog that gets around 20,000 pageviews, I’d only be making $180 in ad revenue (and this is assuming my RPM is just as good).

Ads work for my main blog right now, but it doesn’t mean that they work for every site. For instance, I would never use ads on Rosevibe.

Mission: Rosevibe

This is where I discuss what my plans, hopes, and dreams are for this site. I’ve mentioned before that Rosevibe isn’t generating any income right now. Lately I’ve been getting some Tailwind signups as well as some Bluehost signups, but it all amounts to something small.

The way I’ve been planning on monetizing Rosevibe is mainly through creating my own courses. I want to use my strenghts and teach other bloggers how to get to the top quickly. I also want to come out with eBooks, which I also have a few ideas for (for example, working with brands as a blogger and getting what you want).

My goal is to write the most helpful content based on my personal experience. I don’t want to rush into creating a course. I want to take it one step at a time, and make sure every product is a quality product.

Back in October, I created my first course, and I decided to make it freely available. I was glad to receive positive feedback! All 46 ladies (or gents) who took my course rated it as high-quality or very high quality.

The survery also gave me insight on the length of my course. Since it was my first course, I had no reference frame. When I asked the course-takers, many of them said the course was too short, and nobody complained about it being too long.

So here’s what I’m going to do!

The course How To Start Your Own Kickass Blog will be polished. It’s going to be 10% to 20% longer and more in-depth, and it’s going to include videos showing you how to setup WordPress, and more. Once I revise the course, it will no longer be free.

A stale email list is as good as no email list.

I’ve been building my Rosevibe email list, and it grew to over 3,000 subscribers. I was initially happy about this number, but I’m facing a big problem: my list is stale. I haven’t been emailing my people… at all. For over 6 months.

So when I finally sent my list an email, my open rate was very poor. Not many people opened my email, and for a good reason. What I have to do now is revive my list, and make sure that all future subscribers aren’t left hanging.

A few things I want to do:

  • Ask for everyone’s first name on signup.
  • Improve my welcome email to tell my story and what my website is about.
  • Email my list weekly with more in-depth content, as opposed to solely promoting my new posts.

Last Month’s Goals


1. Get the new Rosevibe theme live.

Done. I’m still tweaking it since I’m not a professional, and I’m not 100% happy with the result. But I’m learning that it matters more to do something than to wait for perfection.

2. Create an autoresponder series for my main blog.

Done! It only took a few hours to cross it off the list, but I’ve been literally putting it off for years.

3. Go to Berlin.

Next Month’s Goals

It’s already almost the middle of the month, but I do have a few goals.

Work on my first eBook.

This is *probably* going to be an eBook about working with brands as a blogger. I’ve worked with brands either through PR, affiliate managers, or directly with owners, and I’ve partnered with brands for sponsored content and more. I’ve also found that there’s a lack of information available for bloggers specifically, and I would love to share my experience and tips for successful brand relationships.

Improve + revitalize my mailing list for Rosevibe.

I’ve already mentioned the steps I want to take above.

Continue drawing (almost) daily.

I’ve drawn almost daily since I arrived in Germany. I actually love to draw, but it’s never been something I stuck with consistently. The learning curve is steep, but I’m hoping to be able to stick with it and get better, since I can’t think of many things that I enjoy more than art.
